Later,
Debbie
The family took me to Red Lobster (tradition). David, Auburn Guy, 'Bama Girl and BF.
The BF brought me flowers!
(You don't think he was kissin' up do ya?)
He's cute, huh?
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all the happy birthday wishes!
Later,
Debbie
Hi all! I've been out of town this weekend because we went to Louisiana to visit my brothers and their families. We left Saturday, stayed Sunday and got home a few hours ago, today. Quick trip! But, we had to make it quick, although everyone wanted go go, Auburn Guy and 'Bama Girl had other plans this week that we had to get back for.
Here's a few pictures of us in Louisiana:
Bama Girl, my sister-in-law Kim, and my nephew feeding the donkeys: Jack and Jill!
Joe, the donkey.
And finally...I can show you what I had been working on before I left:
Kim's Quilt - if you click on it, you can see the cowboy boots and hats. Kim collects western!
My sister-in-law Valerie's quilt.
We had a really good time...although short. But...I'm glad to be home!
If I don't update anymore until after Christmas, hope you all have a good one!
Later,
Debbie
You can look...but don't touch! This is what I got from Midlife Slices:
My very own St. Nick!
Next on my blogroll is The Southern Mom. Debbie and I have so much in common. She’s a red head, I’m a red head. She loves to quilt. I love to quilt. She’s a Southerner. I’m a Southerner. She likes turducken. I’ve never heard of turducken. So much in common, it’s scary.
Debbie is a sports fan, I think. Anyway she yells “roll tide” a lot and I’m pretty sure that’s something to do with sports and not how she does her laundry. She’s also a self proclaimed “Nick Chick”, therefore, I’m giving Debbie, Coach Nick Saban. I wanted to wrap him in a beautiful quilt but opted for a nice red bow instead. Merry Christmas….Roll Tide!
Now, all you ladies: Don't be hatin' on me! You know I deserve this! And Jennifer don't be jealous...I'll let you come over so that you can pet him and feed him Little Debbie Oatmeal cookies!
Love ya'll
Debbie
The Tree!
A few of my Santas!
Now...just so you know I'm not a complete slacker...I'll show a few pictures of what I have been doing! Below is a picture of a purse I made for both my friends, Kim and Lisa for their birthday :
Roll Tide, ya'll!
And if that's not enough Alabama for you:
This is 'Bama Girl's present to her BF. She cross stitched his name and sewed the squares together. I helped her quilt it. I think it turned out really good...considering that from start to finish...we did it in only two days!
Oh...did I mention 'Bama Girl has a BF? Oh yeah. He's really nice and sweet and smart and sweet and funny....oh, and cute! :) (I was paid to say this!....pictures later!)
Well (deep subject!)...that's all I have for now, except...if any of you are traveling in the next few days, please be careful and stay safe!
Later,
Debbie
Hubby and I went for a drive today and ended up in Hartselle. And guess what I found! A new quilt shop...YES! (My mother-in-law had told me about it, but this was the first chance I've had to check it out.)
It's called appropriately "Got to Have It"...cute, huh? And I did! Have to have it that is!
I met the owner Shelby...she's so sweet and I felt like I had known her forever...of course, you know me...I never meet a stranger! Here's a few pictures of her and her shop, well....more than a few! (click to view larger!)
Here's a picture of Shelby (I told her if it was bad I wouldn't post it...but it's really good...so I did!) See all the cool stuff!
The front of the store. If you haven't been to Hartselle, AL, you must! Main Street is full of cute little shops and lots of antiques!
The next few are shots of all the fabric she has.
She has classes. And specials on her fabric. Can you tell I'm ecstatic about my find?
I wish I could remember about all the specials...but my brain was in overload by the time I got out of there! Did I mention how reasonable her prices are? Yep yep!
Here's a couple of pictures of what I bought. This is a panel...but the colors don't show as vibrant as they really are. (Sorry for not ironing it...not!)
Love those polka dots! And red is hard to find in my area...guess everyone else likes them too!
I told Shelby that I would be putting this on my blog and I hope she is able to look at it... her daughter also. If either of you do, put a note in the comments!
And, I hope any of you that live close or come to the Decatur/Huntsville area will visit her...wow, I sound like an advertisement, huh? But, really I'm being sincere! And if you're that close (hint, hint) let me know and we'll do lunch!
Later,
Debbie
Yeah...like I know you care!
But, I just wanted to show what I finally finished. (Oh, and you know the drill, click on the pics if you want to see them larger!)
This is the "pink" Alabama quilt that I've made for 'Bama Girl's roommate. Sorry it's wrinkled! That really shows up in the picture. My bad! :(
And no, I still haven't decorated (hopefully tomorrow before the game starts)! But I did buy this cute Santa to hang on the wall or door.
See? Bama can love Auburn!
('Bama Girl thanking Auburn Guy for her birthday present!)
One more!
Isn't this just like a man!
Chance has his laptop and remote control for the TV. What else could he need?
I know you're glad I'm through with the pictures! (I'm really not...I'll post some of my Christmas decorating. If I get through! 'Cause I've still got to pack for the trip to Tuscaloosa, get gas (yay...it's cheap!) and make sure hubby has food to eat!)
Later,
Debbie
That's right! Nothing, nada, zip! I have no pictures. That's because I have nothing to show. No quilt. No Christmas tree. Nothing!
I am working on a quilt for 'Bama Girl's roommate, Ellen...it's so cute! When I finish, I'll post pictures. The reason it's not finished is because I started quilting it on my machine. Not good! It has fur on the back and it bunched up. I knew it would, but I needed to get it finished in a hurry. Well...instead of doing it right, I messed up and have spent 3 days to take all the stitching out! I'll get pictures of it as soon as possible!
As for Christmas decorating...see above! I'm going to try and finish the quilt so that I can start. That should take a day or two.
On to other things! I now have a new laptop (with really big keys just like my PC keyboard...I hate those small keys on most laptops!) and a new desk! (I'll try to get a picture of that, too!) Love my hubby!
Did you hear about Tommy Tuberville? (For those who don't live in Alabama...he's the football coach of Auburn University...arch rival of the University of Alabama...who we bean 36-0 last Saturday!) He was fired! Now even though I'm a big Alabama fan, I really don't think it was the right thing to do (Did you hear that Valarie Lea?) I mean, really...he is a good coach and only had one losing season. What's up with that? I'm sure there are other reasons...?
Speaking of Alabama...here's a picture of 'Bama Girl in her uniform....she's on the phone with me!
The band is leaving Friday for the SEC Championship game with Florida. Roll Tide!
I'm leaving Saturday to go to Tuscaloosa and will spend the night with her when she gets back from Georgia and then, I'll come home Sunday afternoon. Girl time! Whoop Whoop! And....Mellow Mushroom pizza!
Will be back with some pictures before I leave...hopefully!
Later,
Debbie
Thirty years ago, I married the man of my dreams. He's a wonderful husband and a great dad. And anyone who can put up with me for that long is someone special! Sometimes I forget to tell him that. I know!...thirty years is a loooong time (I was a child bride! Bwahaha!). Hope we have another 30!
Later,
Debbie
we brought home a baby girl.
We had no idea how much joy and happiness you would bring to us. You're beautiful inside and out! We're so proud of you and all you have accomplished!
Later,
Debbie
Well, didja? Huh? I didn't! And you can't do anything about it! Bwahaha!
(Are your speakers turned up?)
Awww...so sweet!
Awww...so young!
(Not anymore!)
Later,
Debbie
The title won't mean much unless you can hear the song...and even that doesn't make a lot of sense, but I wanted something to go with this post, and I like Patsy Cline.
Well yeah...I went to the doctor on a totally unrelated matter to what I'm writing about. She heard me coughing, asked how long that had been going on, and decided to do a chest x-ray. So, I've been sick for what? 3 weeks? Anyway, she looked at the x-ray and decided I have walking pneumonia. Not such a big deal, but she put me on steroids. Folks...steroids make me mean! Hard to get along with! Depressed. And I eat! I hate being on them.
In other news...'Bama Girl is a little upset with me. After the doctor visit, I had to call and let her know that I can't be at the game today. The weather is wet....and cold...and the wind is blowing....and...it's a night game. I tried to explain that it wasn't ideal conditions for me to be in. I don't think she understood. But, I'll try and make it up to her in a week and a half...at Thanksgiving. I really wanted to go, though. I had a ticket and everything! Even a tailgate party to go to....I'm sad.
Goodness, this is really depressing! So.....TA DA!
GOOD NEWS! I found a TURDUCKEN! YAY! I found one in Huntsville, but they wanted $119 for it. Can you imagine? Is it stuffed with gold? And, they don't even do it there! They have it shipped in! Well, I can do that myself. So I did! I ordered one off the internet. But, I didn't order a whole one. I ordered a turducken roll. It's a turkey breast (deboned) stuffed with duck slices, then chicken, then finally with cajun sausage. We've never had one and I really didn't want to spend nearly a hundred dollars for something we may or may not like. If we do like it, I'll buy a whole one next year. (Auburn Guy may be unhappy about this...but, join the crowd...what else is new!) I'm also going to fry a whole turkey for us. Bonnie and her husband are doing this, so I'm splitting the cost of the peanut oil with them.
And...YAY, Alabama! Yes! Just two more games! Mississippi State and then...AUBURN! Then? Well, if we win.....? I don't want to jinx it! But I want to win the next one too!
Roll Tide!
I'm a Nick Chick!
Later,
Debbie
Turkeys, ducks, and chickens. What do these have in common? Poultry might be your answer. And you would be right. But in my world, that's wrong!
TURDUCKEN! Say it with me...tur-duck-en. That's right! Turducken! Okay...I just like saying it. And if you say it with a southern accent it's even funnier! I'm sure most of you know what this is (although, a few of my friends didn't...they thought I was nuts!). If you don't, it's turkey, stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken, stuffed with...well, stuffing! A cajun thing. And the reason for this little lesson?...
Auburn Guy called tonight. Our conversation went a little like this:
"Mom?"
"Yeah?" No...it's Hank's House of Pain...of course it's me.
"Do you remember what you promised last Thanksgiving?" Are you kidding me...I don't remember last week, much less last year!
"No, sweetie...what?" I say this with much fear in my heart.
"A turducken!"
"B- b- b- but, why didn't you say something earlier, I don't know where I can get one!" Googling as fast as my fat little fingers will go.
"You promised!" Did I? Why did I? Was I on crack or what?
"Okay, son...let's just say I did. But from what I see on the internet, if I order one, it cost 79 to 95 dollars - that's american dollars...and let me tell ya kid, I'm not paying that!" Especially when I could get a whole turkey dinner at Publix for $45.00. Not that I would...I'm just saying!
"Mo-o-m."
"Okay, okay...let me see what I can do!" Now...this kid never asks for anything...not like 'Bama Girl who calls my cell phone while I'm shopping and asks what did I buy her!
Sam's club has them on their website, but when I called, my conversation went a like this:
"Sam's, may I help you?"
"Yes...I'd like to find out if you have an item in stock."
"And the item?"
"A turducken."
"Ma'am?"
"Tur-duck-en....it's poultry...in the gourmet section."
"Oooookay....hold on." I'm pretty sure she thought I was a crank caller!
Waiting...waiting...waiting....
"Can I help you?"
"Yes...do you have a turducken?"
"What's that?" Full explanation from me....turkey, stuffed with duck, stuffed with chicken!
"I'll check...(waiting...waiting)...no ma'am, but it might be on the truck tonight."
"Are you sure you don't have one?"
"No ma'am, but if you would like to call back, I'm sure someone else could help you...I'm the cleaning man, everyone else is on break." Bwahahaha...I lost it! So did the cleaning guy!
So, tomorrow I'm off on a mission to Huntsville to hunt down a turducken. First I'll try Sam's and then maybe Tim's Cajun Kitchen...if anyone else has any idea where I might find one, please let me know. This is gonna be fun or at least funny! (When I told 'Bama Girl her response was, "Why don't you stuff one yourself?" I live with crazy people.
Later,
Debbie
Well...Didja?
Alabama vs LSU
You knew I would!
'Bama Girl is in Baton Rouge. I talked to her this afternoon. I warned her!
I told her to stay in a group. Do not leave the hotel. Do not go anywhere by yourself...not even the bathroom! Do not wear an Alabama t-shirt. Do not look an LSU fan in the eye!
"Mommmm...they already told us all that!"
Did they tell you about flying beer bottles and high heels? "YES!"
Okay!
Listen...I'm originally from Louisiana...I know of what I speak! LSU fans are hostile! They hate Saban! They hate Alabama! We're #1!
On the news, it was reported that security was being beefed up for the buses carrying the team and band because of rumors that fans were going to try and turn them over. Didja hear that, 'Bama Girl? Huh? Didja?
(Will they? Probably not. Can they? No.)
So...you know where I'll be tomorrow at 2:30! Sittin' on the couch with David watching the game(he's going to be home this weekend! Yay!)!
I know I have friends and family from Louisiana who read my blog...sorry if I hurt anyone's feeling, but you know it's true!
C'est la vie, ma cher!
Later,
Debbie
I was going to write a "deeper" post today. But I don't argue politic, religion, or anything else on my blog. That's my choice. I won't even argue football! (Why argue about the best? ha ha). So, what I want to say is: Congratulations, Mr. Obama. And even though you were not my choice, I am not so old that I can't appreciate change...I like change...especially if it's for the good. It shakes us up, makes us think...keeps us young.
Now, for more change! Yay...no more political ads! On to the Thanksgiving and Christmas ads!
And more change: I'm thinking about having a "House Divided" Christmas tree!
I've had traditionally decorated trees, a red, white and blue tree (after 911), and a black and orange tree (Austin High School). So, why not! I have plenty of orange and red ornaments. I'll just add AU and UA ornaments, blue ornaments (which I don't have!) and Valarie has some cute ornaments she's 'crafting' over on her blog. I could make some of those...and not just the Auburn ones! I also saw UA and AU stockings at Cracker Barrel yesterday! So cute! I could make some of those!
But, before I do the tree, I need to talk to my children. Especially Auburn Guy. He's not happy. I'm not sure he'll be staying at Auburn. I'm not sure if he's just burnt out from school, if he's just homesick, or what the problem is. He'll be home for a week during Thanksgiving. So will David. Maybe we can work things out then.
'Bama Girl will be home on Tuesday before Thanksgiving and then has to leave Friday for Saturday's game. Roll Tide! We'll be celebrating her birthday (Nov. 29th)...she'll be twenty! Since she'll be in Tuscaloosa, we'll celebrate early. And because our anniversary is the same date...we'll be doing that, too! (Yes...I was giving birth on our 10th!)
It will be nice to have everyone home (at the same time!). I'll be able to feed them, spoil them....and then they'll leave...but not for long. Christmas is creeping up on us!
Later,
Debbie
'Bama Girl came home before Halloween and announced she needed a costume. Now, I thought those days had come and gone! I've made costumes for school plays, Halloween, and anything she ever needed one for. So...I guess she thinks I'll always be here to make one and...I guess I will!
She and her friends decided to be Disney 'Princesses'. Both of her other friends are also in the band at Alabama and play clarinet. One of them was Belle from Beauty and the Beast. The other was Snow White. Of course, with the red hair and all....'Bama Girl was Ariel! Most of the band dressed up for rehearsal on Halloween. I really would have like to have seen 'Bama Girl dressed up and carrying her tuba!
But...here's the picture she sent:
And before you ask...yes, she has a shirt on! She's definitely not a hoochie! She's very modest, therefore always covered up! But, I was stumped on how to do Ariel otherwise!
Later,
Debbie
I write about my kids all the time, I posted a meme about my dog, for goodness sakes!, and I'm always writing about Me...Me...Me! So, today I was reading Jen's blog and she posted a meme about her hubby, so I borrowed it.
November 29th, we'll have been married 30 years, you would think I know him! But, if I answer wrong...I'm sure he'll let me know!
1. He's sitting in front of the TV; what is on the screen? Sports or MSNBC - the stock reports!
2. You're out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad? Bleu Cheese
3. What's one food he doesn't like? Casseroles with noodles...such as Tuna Casserole
4. You go to a bar. What does he order? Corona?
5. Where did he go to high school? Hartselle High

Later,
Debbie
I got Booed! Valarie did it! Now...I'm doin' it to yoooou!
(I'm stealing Valarie's instructions!)
This is how the Blogging Boo will work. Go to as many friends as you want and tell them they've been "Boo-ed". Have them link back to your blog to pick up their Halloween Treat (picture) and tell them to "Boo" their friends. Then, put the picture in your side bar so everyone knows that you've already been "Boo-ed" and to send the pic to someone else. So, are you scared yet!!?? BOO!!
Ok one more time......
1. Take picture, put on sidebar
2. Tell people they have been booed
3. Link back to who booed you
Later,
Debbie
PS: Thanks for all the comments - I'm feeling a little better!
I have the flu...I'm sick, sick, sick! And I'm sick of being sick!
But, I have my remote, cell phone, various meds, quilting magazines, the new Cath Kidston catalog (If you don't know what this is...Google it. I love everything in this catalog!), Blistex, vaporizer...and kleenex with lotion! What you can't see are my pillows and quilts!
I've also found that I hate daytime TV! I've watched wives swapping, nannies, little people, lots of people, lots of kids, good food, bad food, food that's creepy, good politicians, bad politicians, and creepy politicians!
So, until I feel better, you'll find me parked on the couch channel surfing.
Later,
Debbie
Yes, finally...it's me, Chance! I'm hijacking my mom's blog! Yay! Farm Chick Paula and Smokey tagged me to do a tell-all about ME! Chance! And let me tell you, Debbie is very thankful, because her life is not very exciting lately (although I try!)
So...here we go!
Please answer the following questions:
1. What breed are you?
Maltipoo. That's half Maltese and half Poodle!
2. How old are you?
I'm really not sure...Mommy got me about 6 years ago, so I'm probably 7 or 8 years old.
3. What is your full name?
Chance
4. Do you have any nicknames?
The one's I like are: Chancey, Mama's Pretty Boy and Good Boy.
I can't say all the names that my Mom calls me when I'm bad, but the one I hate the most is.... CHANCE! Bad, bad boy!
5. Where do you sleep?
The question should be "Where don't I sleep"!
I sleep with my mom (in her bed) at night. During the day, I sleep where ever she's at...the floor by the computer, the couch, the chair near the window.
6. What is your favorite thing to do?
Hmmmm...that's a toss-up between sleeping and playing!
7. What is something unusual or interesting about you?
I guess the most interesting is how Mom got me. I was living with some other people and they would lock me in a room for a week or sometimes more when they would go out of town. I was litter trained and had a feeder for my food and water, but was always scared it would hang up or break. I COULD HAVE DIED PEOPLE! Also, every time the doorbell rang, I thought someone was coming for me and I would bark (I still do!) Fortunately, the people decided this was not a good thing and asked their friend if they knew anyone who would want me. That friend knew my mom had just lost her dog, Daisy and she was really sad. So...she came to see me, loved me and we've lived "Happily Ever After"! The end.
One other interesting thing: I popsicles! (sugar-free). The only thing is...Mom won't let me have a whole one...she says it wouldn't take much to freeze my little pea-brain!
8. Who is my best friend?
Other than my mom...it would have to be 'Bama Girl (she says she doesn't like me, but I know she does...she's just jealous 'cause Mom likes me more!) Debbie: "I've never said that!"
9. Did you go to obedience school...if so were you "Top Dog" or would you flunk out?
Flunk out? Everyone knows I'm the smartest, cutest, most lovable little pup there is!
10. Can you do any tricks?
Heck, yes! I can dance, walk on my hind legs, speak, and fetch! I will do anything for a marshmallow!
Thank-you, thank-you very much! That was so much fun! And... I would like to pass this on to:
And to anyone else who reads my mom's blog and would like to play! Uh-oh, my mom is telling me I have to get off the computer, it's her turn!
Wow...what a character, I thought he'd never get off my computer! Hope you all enjoyed that and would like to play along.
Later,
Debbie (and Chance!)
