I live with crazy people!

Turkeys, ducks, and chickens.  What do these have in common?  Poultry might be your answer.  And you would be right.  But in my world, that's wrong!

TURDUCKEN!  Say it with me...tur-duck-en.  That's right!  Turducken!  Okay...I just like saying it.  And if you say it with a southern accent it's even funnier!  I'm sure most of you know what this is (although, a few of my friends didn't...they thought I was nuts!).  If you don't, it's turkey, stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken, stuffed with...well, stuffing!  A cajun thing.  And the reason for this little lesson?...

Auburn Guy called tonight.  Our conversation went a little like this:

"Mom?"

"Yeah?"  No...it's Hank's House of Pain...of course it's me.

"Do you remember what you promised last Thanksgiving?"  Are you kidding me...I don't remember last week, much less last year!

"No, sweetie...what?"  I say this with much fear in my heart.

"A turducken!"

"B- b- b- but, why didn't you say something earlier, I don't know where I can get one!"  Googling as fast as my fat little fingers will go.

"You promised!"  Did I?  Why did I?  Was I on crack or what?

"Okay, son...let's just say I did.  But from what I see on the internet, if I order one, it cost 79 to 95 dollars - that's american dollars...and let me tell ya kid, I'm not paying that!"  Especially when I could get a whole turkey dinner at Publix for $45.00.  Not that I would...I'm just saying!

"Mo-o-m."

"Okay, okay...let me see what I can do!"  Now...this kid never asks for anything...not like 'Bama Girl who calls my cell phone while I'm shopping and asks what did I buy her!

Sam's club has them on their website, but when I called, my conversation went a like this:

"Sam's, may I help you?"

"Yes...I'd like to find out if you have an item in stock."

"And the item?"

"A turducken."

"Ma'am?"

"Tur-duck-en....it's poultry...in the gourmet section."

"Oooookay....hold on." I'm pretty sure she thought I was a crank caller!

Waiting...waiting...waiting....

"Can I help you?"

"Yes...do you have a turducken?"

"What's that?"  Full explanation from me....turkey, stuffed with duck, stuffed with chicken!

"I'll check...(waiting...waiting)...no ma'am, but it might be on the truck tonight."

"Are you sure you don't have one?"

"No ma'am, but if you would like to call back, I'm sure someone else could help you...I'm the cleaning man, everyone else is on break."  Bwahahaha...I lost it!  So did the cleaning guy!

So, tomorrow I'm off on a mission to Huntsville to hunt down a turducken.  First I'll try Sam's and then maybe Tim's Cajun Kitchen...if anyone else has any idea where I might find one, please let me know.  This is gonna be fun or at least funny!  (When I told 'Bama Girl her response was, "Why don't you stuff one yourself?"  I live with crazy people.

Later,

Debbie

  2. This is something I have never heard of before. You are really educating me about the south. I just learned what Frito pie was a few weeks ago.
I think I want to move to Savannah. It was really beautiful!

  6. OK, buy a duck.

Then get some of that turkey luncheon meat and some chicken luncheon meat? Stuff it all up in the duck... and say "Ta Dah! Red Neck TuDuRken...er, whatever...!" Do you SEE how easy this could be? And I am sure it would be cheaper.

Girl, with friends like me you just can't go wrong.
