Countdown to Thanksgiving!

But guess what? ‘Bama Girl, Fiance’, and MFR (My Favorite Roomie!) won’t be here…no, they won’t! Neither will William!

It’s just going to be the six of us…Me, David, Donna and Woody, Mr. Turkey and Mr. Ham!

I’m smoking a turkey, cooking a ham, dressing and gravy, rolls, deviled eggs, a pumpkin cheesecake and a plain cheesecake.

Donna is making chicken and dumplings, sweet potato casserole, broccoli salad and a peanut butter pie!

For four…4!…people!

I’m also making a green bean casserole and deviled eggs for the in-law dinner! And a birthday cake!

David and I will be going to his Mother’s for lunch on Thursday. Then, we’ll come back to our house to eat dinner with Donna and Woody.

Friday, we’ll be going to Tuscaloosa to take the poor and pitiful (i.e.: “… can’t cook ‘cause we have no money!”), over-worked (i.e.: “…exams next week!”) law students! Gotta love ‘em!

And then zoom back here for dinner with William!

November…so much going on! Birthdays, holidays…busy, busy, busy!

Happy Birthday!

We went to Rosie’s Cantina in Huntsville for Donna and Woody’s birthday dinner. But first, we also went **SHOCKER!** to an antique shop! We didn’t buy anything, but will be going back!

OMG! Did you realize that Thanksgiving is next week? I was thinking (gotta stop that!) I still had 2 weeks…but no! It’s next week. I’ve got to get my act together!

BamaGirl will be home…! She’s been working so hard and we haven’t seen her in a while. Law school is hard! And takes up all your time! I think when she graduates, they should name a library for her…or at least put a name plaque on a chair for her! Anyway…I’ve got lots of can berries (cranberries…story to come later…) ready for Thanksgiving dinner! Hopefully Dain will be here, too! He eats…EVERYTHING! Which I love, ‘cause why else would I cook? **Note to self: Find out if Dain, roomies, or other people will be here.

Okay…here’s the story on Thanksgiving cranberries! When BamaGirl was little (4 or 5 years old) she thought we were saying can-berries instead of cranberries…makes sense, right? Cranberries…can-berries…berries in a can! She did the same thing with clams. She thought we were saying clowns! Such a cutie! She’d go into a restaurant and order fried clowns! We thought it was hilarious, until she went on vacation with a friend and ordered fried clowns…! Everyone was a little perplexed! As I said…such a cutie!

November is also her birthday. It’s also mine and David’s anniversary. It’s also 4 weeks until Christmas and my birthday! OH MY! I’m late…I’m late!

Did ya miss me?

I took a unscheduled blogging break. And I’m not the only one…I’ve noticed many bloggers are taking breaks due to time concerns, writer’s block, burn-out or whatever! Mine was because of all of the above. Sorry, but I just can’t seem to get back on schedule since David has retired. So…I’m not going to apologize again and promise to do better, ‘cause it just ain’t gonna happen! My blogging schedule is not the only thing suffering. It’s everything! Cleaning, laundry, cooking…quilting time, crafting…time with my friends! Neither one of us is used to the other being around so much and we just don’t know how to handle it! Have any of you had this problem after your husband retired? How have you handled it?

Oh, well…on to other more interesting things…

My son got a new kitty. He went outside and found it huddled under his car. So sweet…both the kitty and my William! BTW…kitty doesn’t have a name yet!

I told you I had been doing some antique (junk) hunting with my sister…here’s a few of the things we’ve found:

The bear is not the antique…the chenille is. I made the bear after Donna and I went to Birmingham to the Christmas Village craft show. HUGE! 2 floors of the civic center…over 700 vendors…HUGE! Anyway, one of the vendors had bears for sale made from chenille…much cuter than mine, and I really wanted one. So, when Donna and I were on one of our junkin’ jaunts…(LOL! I’m hilarious! I crack myself up!)…I found a skirt set (?)…really!…made from chenille….my bear!

I hope you can see this picture. I tried to take it several time, but it just isn’t turning out very good.

You will probably have to “click” on it. I’ve been making roses from coffee filters. They’re really pretty…you just can’t tell it from this picture!

And finally…

The rain left early today and then the colder weather rolled in…along with the fog…cool picture, huh?

Retirement may not be all it’s cracked up to be, but the benefits are great…for me!

My sweet hubby lived through the kitchen remodel and then he made this:

Fall-ing

David and I “took-off” this week-end and ended up in North Carolina! We wanted to see the fall colors before all the leaves were gone. So…we took a little trip to the Smokey Mountains.

So gorgeous!

We were lucky and found a suite at the Nantahala Village Lodge and Spa!

Sooo nice!

Our room had a fireplace…a pool table upstairs…a hot tub and a fireplace on the deck!

Something I’m afraid I’m not too good at lately.

Blogging has pretty much gone to the dogs. It’s not that I don’t have the time, I just don’t have the energy. I’m stressed…S.T.R.E.S.S.E.D! And nothing can be done about it. I’m not sleeping. I’m grouchy. I’m mean. I’m tired. I’m stressed.

So…now that you know, let me get on with it and show some of the things I’ve been doing. (Be forewarned…it’s a “picture heavy” post!)

I really love it. It really gave me fits, because I wasn’t sure how it would all come together and if I had chosen wisely. But, thankfully…all worked. I’m really lovin’ the tile…I ordered it online, it’s glass and I was hoping it would match my dishes…it did!

So…thank-you hubby! For putting up with my stressed-out self and for just being here for me! Thank you my sweet sister, Donna and her hubby, Woody for giving me advise, watching as it went up, and getting me out of the house! I appreciate it!

I’ll try to be back sooner! Donna and I have been doing some antique shopping and I really want to show you what we gotten and what I’ve done with it!

Really? No…really?

I haven’t been gone…just lazy. Lots of things to talk about, though!

First! Yay! Congrats to my ‘Bama Girl! She graduated! With honors! and a 4.0! (I know, I’m late! She graduated August 9th! At least I’m writing about it in the same month!) So…here’s a picture to prove it:

Well, we had a new baby…a bull!

I got a solar clothes dryer…**squeal**!

Speaking of “him”…he’s now home….full time! He retired. And yeah, it’s been a month and he’s still alive! (We’re hoping he’ll still be alive next month, too! Kidding!)…if you don’t know, I’m kinda hard to live with!

Well, I made squash relish and pear honey, three new quilts and I’m learning how to Knook…(google it!)…my sister and brother in law have come home from Iraq and moved into their new home. We’ve been to a lot of antique shops! My house is still a mess (from the fire) and I still haven’t gotten my new cabinets or countertops installed…hopefully next week! But, my honey and I did something new to the dining room…we put up bead board and I painted. Yes…again! Wanna see? Well…if you don’t want to see, leave now!:

“Good Fences Make Good Neighbors” Robert Frost

Not! At least not when your neighbor cuts the fence down. I try not to complain (operative word…try! LOL), but seriously people I need a place and some friends to vent to today!

First, the back story.

About 2 weeks ago, one of my neighbors (we’ll call him Bubba for lack of a better name) came over and let me know that I couldn’t leave my cows in the pasture with our pond and the one leading into it. Why? Because he was going to take his fence down if I didn’t put up my own fence (not sure if it’s his fence or if the fence is on my land…). His reason? Because the people we bought our farm from had horses that leaned against his fence and stretched it out. Number one…I’m not those people. Number two…I don’t have horses. But he said that now that we had cows it’s what I had to do. My problem with this? The pond is the only way the cows get water, I have to let them in those two pastures.

Fast forward two weeks:

Saturday, one of our cows had a calf. 2 months early. That’s not the problem, just the backstory. Monday July 4th, David had to leave to go back to Ohio for work. He left about noon and called saying that he got there around 8:30 pm. We had a really big storm , so 8:30 pm, I took a shower, put on my pj’s and settled in to watch some TV and maybe do a little sewing.

Sometime around 9 pm, David called and asked if the cows were in the pasture. I said I didn’t know, but would check. So I put on a pair of capris and sneakers, drove up the driveway, but didn’t see any cows. David said someone had called to say the cows were out. Dangit…they were! All over the place. My neighbors from all down the road and a deputy sheriff were trying to get them into one of their pastures when I got there. I counted nine of the ten we have. Mama cow and calf were not with them. The story goes downhill from here!

Because of all the fireworks, dogs barking, and the sheriff flashing his lights and blowing his siren to keep them off the road, the cows were panicked and running from one field to another. (Remember it’s dark-thirty!) About 11:30, we lost them. . . could not find them anywhere! In the meantime, “Bubba” and his mama started yelling at some of the men as they walked up their driveway to see if the cows were there. Real redneck thing to do…right? The sheriff’s deputy went to see what the problem was. “Bubba” and his mama told him that they had called me tonight and told me they were cutting the fence. (I found this out later that night and no…there was no phone call). When I got back to my pastures to see if maybe they had come home, sure enough **@?! Bubba had cut the fence down.

Now…since it was midnight, all my neighbors told me there was nothing I could do until morning, but they would come back and help me find them. Everyone was hopeful they would come home in the meantime. Also, David was on his way back from Ohio. Which meant he would be driving 17 hours that day.

Morning:

David got in at 5:30 am. I had no sleep. We went to the pasture to see where the fence had been cut and “Hallelujah” the cows were there…the nine that got out, plus Mama and her baby!

So…all’s good that ends good. Except we have to get an attorney, have a survey (we had one during the sale, but may have to pay for a new one), and get a restraining order to keep “Bubba” and his family off our land! The upside? I met some really good people!

David left on his third trip to Ohio since Monday. The cows are in the other 3 pastures (we have 5). All’s quiet on the home front for now.

Happy Independence Day, Let Freedom Ring!

I made and quilted a red, white, and blue stars quilt. I think I really like it! It’s very different from my other quilts…at least I think so! But what do I know?

In other news…

Miss July 4th, 2011 made her appearance. We had a baby…*squeal*!

It wasn’t expected until September. Right now, we’re not sure if it was early or if the vet messed up the dates.

Other than that, not much is going on except work on my kitchen…again. Same song, second verse…

I’ve picked out new cabinets, countertops and appliances. Before the fire, we had planned on a redo of the kitchen anyway, but not to this extent! We also are planning on new carpet and *maybe* new living room furniture…crossing fingers!

Anyway, I’ll be getting a new stove (gas…which I don’t have now.), an over the stove microwave, a new sink and faucet, as well as granite countertops. I’ve picked out white cabinets and an oak island, two things I didn’t expect, because I’m all for the darker, more vibrant colors of the spectrum. I’ll be getting most of the bells and whistles such as: a cabinet with a lazy susan, a mixer lift, and roll out shelves/drawers? I’m not sure what they’re called…LOL! I’m also getting a garbage compactor (never had one before!)

The best thing? All my appliances will match! I don’t know if ya’ll remember, but I did a whole house redo in my Decatur home a few months before selling and moving to Eva…total regret at having to leave it!

The only problem I’ve encountered with this remodel is the indecisiveness I’m having with the granite countertops. Should I go with Uba Tuba, which was in the Decatur house:

Santa Cecilia?

As of now, the money is on the Santa Cecilia and we got an off white ceramic sink (which I can return) and will get a rubbed oil bronze finished faucet. The problem I’m having is that the tile in the kitchen and dining room clash with the granite, plus you all know how much I like darker colors…this is my conundrum! And yes, if you all say the darker countertop, I agree, but…remember these are samples. (I have to keep reminding myself of that!) Also, the cabinets I ordered are white and the island will be oak, and…the countertops will not be laying next to the floor but closer to the cabinet. A conundrum! (I’m trying to convince myself that the Santa Cecilia is the “right” one…**I’ve already ordered it, but…! Oh well…I’ll sleep on it…I have until Tuesday to make up my mind (all opinions will be considered and appreciated with love!)

Ladies, I have apologize..I lost your names. I had a freak accident this weekend. A kitchen fire. The fire department had to come and everything! But thankfully, no one was in the house, except Chance...and he's okay. I was out on the tractor mowing near the pond and when I came back to the house, I opened the door to a lot of smoke, but no flames. Apparently my paper towels had blown onto my stove (off, but still hot from previous use) and started a fire. My cabinets are blistered and my countertop is ruined in one place...and the house smells like smoke. But everything is okay, no worries! So...sometime during all the confusion, the bag that had your cards in it has disappeared...if I find it, I'll add your names later. Or, if you want to email me, I'd be happy to add them sooner! Again, I'm so sorry!

could get better, but it's gonna get worse!

It's not even summer yet and I'm sweltering! 11 days above 90* and no rain in the forecast. But there's not a lot I can do about the weather, is there?

I haven't done much lately except spend time in the pool. David was home this weekend and just left yesterday. We're on the retirement count-down for sometime in August!

I did work on a couple of projects last week:

Since it's so hot, I think I'll stay inside and maybe do a little quilting this week. I got a new template for a Twister block in Decatur the other day. Another quilt shop is going out of business and everything was on sale, but between you and me...they were really on the pricey side. But, luckily another one is expanding just a few doors down.

Well, guess I'll go look at my fabric stash and see if there's anything that interests me!

Melt Down

It's hot...H.O.T! (I know...I'm just stating the obvious!)

I've made some new decisions. Because it's summer, I don't always have time to write. But, I don't want to give it up or take a break. I'm selfish like that...and I might have something exciting to say and if I say I'm taking a break, you might not check in with me and then, you'd miss it! (How's that for a run-on sentence, Professor?) So?

So...it's Monday!

Wanna see what I've been doing? I've been putting rocks down around the pool. "We" were having to mow or use the weed eater on the grass which caused it to blow into the pool. A lot of work...really! And BTW, I don't know who the "we" is, Kimosabe...'cause I'm the only one doin' it!

I've also started working on a dresser for William...he doesn't have one. What?...that's because I took his armoire and I'm using it in my sewing room. So, this is what I bought:

Hideous...right? Somebody got happy with a sponge! I really can't show the after, because I don't have it yet. I've started on it. I can tell you that it's going to be a light gray. When I asked William what color he wanted, his answer was, "Everything in my bedroom is black, brown or blue...you choose." I did.

I've been doing other stuff, too. Bush hogging, mowing, taking care of the cows...just nothing blog worthy. So, if something happens, I'll write another post. See? That's the genius of my decision. I'll for sure write on Monday, but if I need or want to, I can write more!

Time flies...

This will be the second time I've written this post...my bad computer keeps shutting down and losing everything. So, I'm going to get this done quickly!

I've got to apologize for losing the entire month of May! Where did it go? I've only written one other post...no wonder I'm losing readers...even my mother has quit checking to see if I've updated!

One of the reasons I've not written is the tornadoes. Even though I wasn't directly affected, it does take a toll on the nerves. Every part of our state is part of a disaster. Trees are down everywhere. Houses gone. Businesses gone. People's lives are gone.

Monday, I had to go to Tuscaloosa with 'Bama Girl to help her find a new apartment. Even though I had seen Cullman and the devastation here, I still wasn't prepared. Even the drive down I-65 is bad. Coming down McFarland Drive in Tuscaloosa, everything looks okay, but then you're slapped in the face by it. For example:

This is Hobby Lobby and the debris? Milo's Hamburgers and Full Moon Barbeque. Across the street? Krispy Kreme...gone. But to be honest, pictures don't do the damage justice. To be in the middle of it all is the real slap in the face. And I can't even imagine what it must be like to be one of the survivors of this. My heart goes out to them.

To other news, we did find 'Bama Girl a new apartment. And she has two new roomies, one is from Ohio and the other from Mobile, AL. They all start law school in the fall. Roll Tide!

Plus we bought 'Bama Girl a new car! Bye-bye, Tracker!

Hell000o, Cruze!

And on the home front...WE HAVE COWS! We now have registered Angus cattle. Thursday, we got three: Savannah, Stephanie, and Asia...not names I would have chosen, but these are their registered names. And...the woman who had them, kept them as pets.

And then...we got 7 more.

Now, we have a herd of 10 cows. In September, we'll have 15 after the babies are born! *squeal*...I love babies!

I had a chance to buy a Gammill quilting machine for a very, very good price. But, it had a 14 foot table and I had no place to put it, except in the garage or David's shop. I was afraid it would get dirt in the mechanisms and in the tracks of the frame. I'm very sad. I really, really wanted it. But, I have a "good enough" quilting machine and that's life, so I really need to get over myself, quit whining, and make a quilt!

Not much else has happened, except I think I've might have been bit by a spider. I think I'll probably go to the doctor tomorrow. There are blisters, redness and swelling around the bite area. It's also very hot and I'm having a few flu-like symptoms. Ugh!

**Just got home from the Doctor's office and he said that I'd definitely been bitten by a spider. He said it was either a brown recluse or a black widow...he wasn't sure which, but gave me some antibiotics and told me not to be playing with spiders anymore!

Normal?

Well, things are slowly getting back to normal for us. And hopefully for others in the neighborhood and our community after the tornadoes.

But, what is normal? For me...hmmmm...let's see! Just a a little heads up..I'm in a mood today!

True story:

Not too long ago, I was driving down my long driveway and a white cat ran in front of my car and into the woods. A few days later just about dark, I looked outside and saw something white. I thought it was the cat. So, I stood on my porch and started calling to it: "Here kitty kitty. C'mere kitty. Kitty, kitty, kitty?..." It was nearly dark, but I could see the "kitty" turn around and waddle to the barn...not a kitty! But, I didn't know what it was...but, everybody laughed at me and said my "kitty" was a possum! I said no. It had a fluffy tail and was definitely not a possum! I may not be the quickest bunny in the woods, but the village hasn't lost it's idiot yet ... I do know what a possum looks like!

So...the morning after the tornadoes, I hadn't slept all night, and went out onto the porch to see if there was any damage, instead...I found my "kitty"!

In other news, 'Bama Girl and the Fiance' were here. Power was outin McCalla, so they came home...for food! And in case you were wondering, the University of Alabama has re-scheduled graduation. 'Bama Girl will be graduating August 6th. And if I didn't say...ya'll are all invited! It's gonna be kinda strange, 'cause she'll already have been taking law classes. (She's going to school this summer...no stopping that girl!)

(I've got to stop this bragging!!) BTW...I love William, too! And am very proud of him! He's doing well in the Digital Imaging program...but I'm not sure when classes will resume, because the campus was slightly hit by the tornadoes and I don't think power has been restored.

Guess I'll go for now...'Bama Dad (David) came in last night and we're going to see a man about some cows! That makes me happy! LOL! The only problem with getting some cows is that I won't be able to bush hog as much...and you all know how much I love bush hogging! One more funny story:

Last weekend, David was home. I was bush hogging a pasture...'Bama hat on, music on the i-Pod...gettin' it! David brought me some water and said, "Darlin', I've bought you diamonds and pearls, Cadillacs and BMW's...but that darn green tractor has made you happier than any of that other!" Yep! I love my tractor!

But to prove I'm still a girly-girl...what do you think of this?

Purple fingernail polish? Yes or no. 'Bama Girl didn't like it...I do. I win. I'm going to get some blue and green and yellow...so there! **sticking tongue out** I guess she was just shocked that my nails were painted at all! I usually only do my toenails...and only in the summer. In the winter? I just let the summer polish wear off! TMI...gross, huh?

We're OK!!

To all my friends and family:

We're okay in Eva, which is just outside of Cullman, AL (they were hit bad by the tornadoes!) 'Bama Girl and Fiance' were not in Tuscaloosa...Thank God! So much ruin and so many people lost...not only in T-town, but all over North Alabama! The tornadoes passed over us, but hit all around. William and I were home, but safe. There is no electricity, phones, or internet (we're at a McDonald's in Hartselle (they have electricity) David has come in from Ohio with a generator, gas and food. My sister, Donna and brother-in-law, Woody (the ones working in Iraq) got in touch with us and they had a generator also. So, we have our fridge and some light and the radio.

I hope all my friends in Alabama are all okay and safe. As soon as we have power and internet, I'll be checking on you...'specially the ones in Attalla, Huntsville, and North Alabama...you know who you are!

I was going to post yesterday, but I didn't have electricity from 5:30 am until 4 pm. No electricity=no computer! We had a lot of storms and apparently the straight-line winds knocked down trees and snapped off power lines. Onward!

So many things got away from me lately...

One of them was that my sister and bro-in-law (who work in Iraq for a contractor) came to visit, fell in love with Alabama and decided to buy a home here! Unfortunately they had to go back to Iraq one more time and then will be back in August to stay! Aren't they cute?

It took forever to get this picture...she kept closing her eyes!

We had gone to Hartselle, AL antiquing and went to Cahoots Cafe' to eat...cute place...antiques everywhere and each booth is different!

My baby was here this weekend.

My Baby!

She graduates from the University of Alabama on May 7th. With honors. She's that smart and I'm not surprised, but...it's just unreal when as her parents, you've raised her, lived with her, know her strengths and faults only to find out that other people know she's as special as her Dad and I think she is! *tear* Last weekend David and I went to Honor's Day at Alabama...she was awarded two in the Arts and Science College...that's huge...'cause, well...that part of the college is huge...lots of students graduating. She got quite a few (many!) graduate school offers. Lots of scholarships. $100,000 offers. Really, no lie. I'm impressed...but again, not surprised. She's always done everything she set out to do. And she always will.

Us!

So...as for graduate school...she's made her decision. She's going to The University of Alabama, School of Law. Roll Tide! We're happy...she'll still be close to home and it's a really good law school. Also, she'll still be 'Bama Girl. Not Penn St. Girl, Virginia Girl, or Notre Dame Girl. I can still write about her and not change names...(and it's all about me and my blog...doncha' know! *Grin*)

I've got a sinus infection. And if you live in the South...nuff said! And if you don't? Now is not the time to visit. Why? Because of this:

It's full of pollen and it's everywhere...like this:

On top of the pool, in the grass, on the patio, on the porch, on the outside furniture. It clogs up the skimmers in the pool and the gutters on the roof. You just can't get away from it.

And because of it... I can't breath and I can't talk..."I thound like thith!"

So. I'm going to stay on the couch, pop a Musinex, wash it down with Alka Selzer Plus and count the used Kleenex on floor. Be back later when I feel human again!

'Bama Girl came home and we went out today to do a little shopping at some antique stores in Somerville, Hartselle and Eva.

Most of the prices in the ones we went to were way over our heads. So we had decided to just be " lookers"! We went into one shop that had all Cottage/Shabby/Vintage Chic. Loved it! Way, way out of our league and nowhere near what we had in our pocketbooks!

So...we went to a store that I love because the prices are reasonable and she'll deal with you! Today, she had 10% off everything. And look what 'Bama Girl found:

Silver plated (I think). We cleaned it up and it's really shiny and so girly! $10 minus 10%...good deal!

Then, we came to Eva and went to the antique store here and this is what I bought:

I know you probably can't see it, but the front has an asian-style relief on the front. And it opens:

The lady at the store said it was a telephone table? I'm not sure. Maybe when I clean it up I can tell. I'm not sure if I'll refinish it or paint it (I'm thinking I'll paint!)

This may be rated PG for violence...we were doing a little "Top Shot" tonight! (If you haven't watched that show, then that comment just went zooming over your head! I watch it...can you believe that? To me it's just another reality show...and I love my reality!) William came over tonight and brought his school project. To destroy. And he did. It was a booger of a project to do...and a little target practice was just the ticket to let off a little steam! I was thinking it would explode when he hit it, but it didn't!

Well...that was a little redneck, huh? So, on to some fun stuff!

Why oh why can't I remember to take "before" pictures? I bought a lamp from the thrift store for $3.99...U.G.L.Y! No doubt! Terra cotta lamp with a terra cotta colored shade. And I didn't get a before picture of the lamp...but I did of the shade, so...use your imagination:

I painted it white (the lamp) and when I went to B'ham with 'Bama Girl, I bought a shade for $14. An $18 lamp...not bad!

It's for my bedroom and I also hung this frame and an urn (?) which was flat on one side that I found in a box in the garage. (If it's ugly...let me know!)

David and I went to Attalla, AL this past week-end for a little antique shopping and I bought a set of TV trays, so I used one in the bedroom:

I also bought a chair and ottoman. I'm going to redo this room for David's office, you can see a small portion of the wallpaper border...yuck!:

Birmingham bound!

Going to see 'Bama Girl and spend the day with her.

Look what I'm taking...Cupcakes in a Jar!

I'm also taking Chicken and Sausage Gumbo as well as Poulet de Normandy (Just a fancy name for chicken and dressing layered with cream of mushroom soup and topped with cheese!). I'm always welcome when I bring food.

I'm not sure what we're going to do...maybe some shopping, thrift store shopping and going to Home Goods. I've never been and thought this might be a good time...I'll let you know what it's like! I'm sure we'll also go out for lunch!

In 'Bama Girl news, she will be graduating from the University of Alabama this May with honors!! We're so proud of her! She just won an award (Cash!) and we're also waiting on offers from Law Schools. She's been accepted to several, but the scholarship offers (Cash!) haven't been sent out yet...they wait...she waits...we wait! She also interviewed for the Psych Law graduate program at UA...again...waiting! We'll know soon and then I'll let you know!

Painting Backsplash tile? It's Fiesta time!

My friends, my family, the home improvement store.....

You know...I don't take too well to the word "No." To me, it's a dare.

And baby, it was on like Donkey Kong!

It's not bad tile. It's not ugly tile. In fact, I used the same tile in my other house remodel. It's just not the tile I wanted. I knew I could get new tile if I wanted and I really wanted glass tiles, but...

I'm trying to keep this remodel on budget and on time. I was afraid if I tried to rip it out, I'd have to replace the sheet rock! Not on my agenda or my budget!

So my favorite medium: Paint!

I cleaned it, painted it, applied Polyurethane. Done!

At a later date, I may paint the 4" tiles underneath, but for now...I'm happy how this turned out!

Speaking of the stove...I need to get a new one. My other appliances are stainless. I also really wanted an over the stove microwave, but after measuring, I find I don't have room unless I rip out the cabinets above which I don't plan on doing:

I got off the fence and decided that I'd paint the larger tile. I used the same Espresso that I used on the cabinets. I also finished the backsplash behind the stove.

Still working on the kitchen!

I'm still working on the kitchen and have done nothing else! (I have three quilts I'd like to be working on...can't do everything, I guess!) I'm painting the walls at the moment and can't seem to get a good picture...the color always looks brown in the pictures?? And I've tried everything! The walls are green..."Crocodile Tears" is the color. Here are a couple that I finally got tweaked to look green.

Hopefully, I'll finish with all the wall painting today. And, I've still got to refinish the island. Also, I've got a surprise project I'll be doing. Plus, I'd rather hubby not know what I'm doing...he would definitely think I had lost it...he doesn't always 'get' my visions! Surprise Laundry Room Redo!

Betcha didn't know 'bout that didja?

Yeah, it was a surprise to me, too! My sweet hubby had told me to look for a deal on a new washer/dryer. Thursday afternoon, I found one...Thursday night I was painting the laundry room.

I don't have any before pictures, but believe me it was drab!

When I got the paint I thought it was turquoise, but 'Bama Girl said she thought it was more "Tiffany Blue". She was right although you might not be able to tell because of the flash:

These work like a dream! My old set was close to 20 years old and worn out! Definitely not energy efficient!

I had just gone to the Crow's Foot (an antique store in Eva) and bought a cute white table, so I went with the blue and white color scheme.

I had the molding with the hooks on it, but it was a 10 foot piece, so I cut it down. I had to have somewhere to hang clothes! The picture is one that I painted years ago, and the other things on the table are some that I had outside along with a vase I made...like the candle holders. Closer look:

I'm still working on the kitchen, but I've run into a snag. Wanna see a sneak peek, though?

I love my bed. My king-sized, memory foam, soft bed. It's covered with my white Pottery Barn coverlet which I bought to match my quilts. I love my bed.

Look closer. Do you see it? The cinder block and the piece of wood? My lovely bed broke. And not on my side...so no cracks about my weight! It broke and I don't think it can be fixed...but maybe the part of the frame replaced? In the meantime, I fixed it...ghetto or not!

Yay me!

Hobby Lobby had 80% off home accents. The two white frames are 11 x 14...I've got plans for them. I really don't know why they were on clearance. They are the same frames on the shelf in the frame department...no nicks, no scratches...nothing. One was $8 (reg. $23.99) and the other was $4.80 (not sure of the reg. price). But...whatever. I've got them now and I've got plans for them! I'll share later (after I finish with the kitchen remodel!).

The shelf was almost overlooked. I didn't need it...wasn't looking for it...but it jumped into my shopping cart when I wasn't looking. A steal...regularly priced at $19.99. Mine for a measly $4.

So...it was worth it for me to go into town today! (This was better than going to a thrift shop!)

Weekend Crafting...

Continuing with the cheap! During Christmas, 'Bama Girl and I went shopping...are you shocked? We went to The Old Farmer's Almanac General Store at the Shops of Grand River outlet mall. And I saw this and wanted it:

The problem? I didn't want to spend $10...told you I'm cheap!

So...I made this one:

Cost: $1.00...I had the jar, bought hand soap with a pump at the Dollar Store!

And while I was at the Dollar Store I bought these:

I had seen similar ones at home decor stores or in magazine and they cost anywhere from $14-$40! Mine were $2.00!

I also worked on my kitchen cabinets...slow going! But, hopefully the weather will stay pretty and mild for a few more days and I can get them finished! (Then, I have wall painting to do!)

I've been wanting something to put the cat and dog food into, but I really hate spending so much money on something so mundane! And the ones I really wanted were not cheap:

Price?...$ZERO! The canisters had protein powder in them and the alphabets are scrapbook stickers.

FYI: Kitchen remodel is still on. I've just hit a snag. I've painted and glazed all the cabinets and doors, except for the island. (I'm thinking about doing the island a different color.) I'm now waiting on the weather to clear up so that I can varnish everything. I need to wait until the sun is shining and the weather is a little more mild to do this...I'm afraid if I don't, it will dry sticky. And I don't need that! So...next week, the temps are suppose to be in the 60's **squeal** and sunny **squeal**! I'm so ready for some springtime weather, even if it doesn't last.

Kitchen Makeover: Progress?

As my sister said when she visited: "Ewwww...your kitchen threw up!"

Kitchen makeover. Here I go...again!

A little over a year ago, I remodeled the house that we had lived in for 18 years. Then...I sold it. Bummer!

But, I bought a new house...okay, not so new. I've lived here a year. I've painted the bedroom, the living room and the hall. I stained the deck this summer....remember the heat and all the whining, the crying, the foot stomping?

And...to all of you who read my blog and have stuck with me...you're good friends!

And if you stick with me through this, well...bless your hearts, you've got stamina!

So...this is what's happening:

I hate my kitchen cabinets, but really don't have the money, nor do I want to spend that much (between $3000-$6000) to fix them. Hubby doesn't want to do anything with them (big shock, huh?) I looked into re-facing, re-finishing, and...gasp...new cabinets! Not gonna happen!

The problem:

There is too much damage and too many cabinets. I didn't want to spend weeks stripping, sanding and priming. I knew I couldn't just paint, because it would 'slip' off or give me the same effect that is on there now. So what's a girl to do?

The solution:

RUST-OLEUM Cabinet Transformations

I know, right? I had never heard of it either! Found it at my local hardware store when I was looking for other solutions!

What is it?

It's a kit...I paid about $80 and bought 3 to do my kitchen cabinets, drawers, and island. I may have to buy one more...the island is pretty big! There are two kits...one for dark cabinets and one for white. There are also two options...glaze or no glaze...I chose no glaze and I chose the dark color kit.

What's in it?

and a DVD. If you plan to do this...watch it! Seriously!

Quickie instructions:

Step 1: Degloss and clean.

Step 2: Apply bond coat. (color)

Step 3: Apply glaze for wood grain, etc. Optional

Step 4: Apply protective top coat.

Final product:

(*I will probably get cup pulls for the drawers.)

Why did I go dark?

Even though it looks black (YIKES!), it's really espresso...dark brown. It looks good with the orange countertops...sorta Tuscan-looking! I thought about white...and all the kitchen makeovers I've seen on the internet are white. Well...you know me! Dare to be different! I'm still debating on whether to paint the island a different color...maybe white? (I'm also considering wainscoting on my walls in my kitchen and dining room...?) We'll discuss this later!

Do I like the product?

Heck, yeah! No sanding, no stripping, no primer...my kind of project! Cost wise? Good deal!

**The only drawback? I know of no one who has tried this. We'll have to see how it holds up to usage.

So...even though you only have a small sample to look at...what do you think? Have I made a mistake? Should I stop now? Should I have gone white?

Gotta get back to the grindstone 'cause these cabinets aren't going to refinish themselves!

Everything is white here! The snow is sticking around and the temps are dropping fast! The next three days temps will be 15*, 13*, and 14*...not that it matters...when it's that cold, one or two degrees doesn't make a difference!

I was finally able to pick up my sister and BIL. They were stuck in Dubai, then Atlanta, and finally Huntsville...40 miles from me and I couldn't get to them! I tried last night...their flight was delayed...the road I needed to be on to get to them closed...I had to turn around and come home...so sad! But...I got up this morning and went to Huntsville. Some black ice and some traffic backed up and creeping along...but, that's all behind us...they're home and we're happy!

I'm getting snow blind and decided to look for a little color; hence, my blog title!

That last one's not so white, but is colorful!

We're suppose to get a few flakes around here tomorrow. Probably 4-8 inches...so says the weatherman...maybe 10. TEN! What? Nooooooo! And it's probably not just snow, but snow/ice mix. I don't have a generator! If the power goes out...I'll have to cook on the grill...in the snow...and the ice!

My sister and brother-in-law were suppose to fly in from Iraq (where they are working) on Monday morning. Right now, they won't be! Delta has canceled all flights into Atlanta and Huntsville...so they're stuck in Dubai. I'm sure she's not a happy camper!

Now for some quilting pictures...hope you don't mind!

I guess I'm going to try to stay warm sewing binding onto a quilt. I finished a scrappy log cabin (except for the binding). It has 72 different fabrics in it. Here's a sneak peek:

Rezzolutions? Not really...

My 2011 resolutions? Well, not resolutions, but life changes. And I love a list! Fortunately, this is not a big list...just big changes.

1. Use the word "no" this year.

I have a problem saying no to anything. I always say yes and then I regret my decision. And resent the people who ask.

Why does everyone expect "yes"? Because I don't work, I have no children at home anymore, and my husband works out of town (which hopefully he'll stop doing this year...but believe me....I'm not holding my breath!).

This means I have all the time in the world, right? NO! See #2...

2. Spend more time for me.

This goes hand in hand with #1 and the people I will be saying "no" to will not understand this.

So...what does "spending more time for me" mean? I'm not sure, yet...I've never done this. I'm hoping it means spending more time on my health (yeah...yeah...I really mean losing weight, just didn't want to say it!), taking time to enjoy my husband, travel more, quilt for me if I want to!

In other words...be selfish with my time!

3. Not let my brain fall out of my mouth!

This is a big one!

I have a bad habit of saying things without thinking about them first. I can be really blunt, rude, and hurtful. Especially to the people I love. Some people would call it being honest. It's not honesty...it's just me being mean. I know it...and I will stop it! (This also pertains to #1...it comes from being resentful, therefore being mean to the people I can't say no to.)

That's the end of that. AMEN!

It's a nasty, dark, rainy day here...not helping my mood! But, I'm going to do better! I think I'll go back to bed, then get up back up and eat breakfast and then...go to the sewing room and put the quilt I finished (for me!) on the quilting frame and get it quilted!

Still quiltin'

I've been doing quite a bit of quilting over the past couple of months. I'm done with most of the Christmas gifts, although I have one that needs the binding finished and another that needs to be quilted. I had to order gray flannel for the backing on the one that needs to be quilted because you can't find gray flannel in stores...anywhere! Believe me...I looked! And since these are Christmas gifts, I'll have pictures "after" Christmas!

But I do have pictures of the third one 'Bama Girl and I made for her future in-laws...this one is for future father-in-law's wife (if you can follow that!):

I finished it while I was in Ohio and 'Bama Girl put the binding on...my favorite part...Not!

Here's some pictures of what happens behind the scenes of "getting a picture of the quilt":

'Bama Girl?

I don't always use a pattern for my quilt...I didn't for this one or the one below. But...I decided I would on another one that I had been coveting. It is just like the one above except the 4-patch is smaller...2". You are suppose to cut 2 strips...black and white...1 1/2" wide, sew together, then cut into 1 1/2" segments to make a 4-patch and then sew to a 2 1/2" solid square. No matter what I did (and I did it 3 times) I could not get the 4-patch to come out the right size to match the corresponding square...I checked my seams...all quarter inch! I checked my cutting measurements...all cut right. What the heck? That one has been put on the back burner and I'll re-start it another time....Christmas is stressful enough without having to take a quilt apart!

So now...while I'm waiting on the mail...I've started a another...for me...I hope! And the reason I say this? The one above? It was suppose to be mine! Oh, well...I'm liking this one even more!

I don't think I showed what else I worked on when I was in Ohio. I needed a portable project and I crochet, so this is what I made:

And between all this? I bought a new tree...pre-lit...took my old one to 'Bama Girl, went Christmas shopping with her, and finally decorated my house:

Fishes and Pinwheels...Quilted Christmas Gifts...

I'm just now getting around to posting this...Turkey day had me laid out for a few days. (Laid out on the couch like a lazy bum!) But forget you heard that because...

Heck, yeah! 'Bama Girl and I were busy over the holiday...we finished three..yes, three quilts for her future family-in-law! And we is the is the word of the week! She did a lot of the sewing and quilting on these! Although, unfortunately I only have pictures of two. 'Bama Girl took one home with her to finish the binding...so, never fear, I'll have the pictures of that one later!

Bias Diagonal Striped Binding Tutorial

How do you like that title?

Okay...so. I've never done a tutorial before, bear with me.

I wanted easy diagonal striped binding directions...on the bias...striped like a candy cane...but could not find one that I understood on the web. So what does a girl do...?

1. Tries to figure it out herself. She has a college education, surely it can't be this hard!

2. It is! Next...?

3. Ruin a 1/3 yard of fabric! Next...?

4. Cry, cuss, cry some more! Next...?

5. Call Mother! She'll know!

And...she did! My grandmother showed her! Thank goodness!

Note: I 'm using a different piece of fabric for the tutorial than I did for the quilt I'm binding.

Tools: Cutting mat, ruler, rotary cutter

Step one:

Place fabric face down on cutting board. Line left side up on mat.

Step Two:

Bring right side of fabric down to left hand corner.

Step Three:

Cut fabric on diagonal. (I found it really doesn't matter where as long as you're using the diagonal line on the mat.)

Step Four:

a. With top portion that has been cut off cut a 2 1/2" strip. Discard remainder of this top portion of fabric (or put into scrap bin!)

b. Using bottom piece of fabric, flip upward to the diagonal line and cut another 2 1/2" strip. (Continue cutting 2 1/2" strips until you have enough for the quilt you want binding on.)

Steps Four

a. Line the two strips up:

b. Sew on the diagonal; trim ends and 'bunny ears'.

c. Open and press.

To finish:

a. Fold in half and press.

c. Attach raw edges of binding and quilt together; sew with machine.

d. Turn binding towards back and hand sew into place.

Binding attached!

I'll show the finished quilt when I sew the binding on the whole thing!

Disclaimer to anyone who is reading this:

I am writing this tutorial so that I won't have to call my mother the next time I need diagonal biased binding! I'm sure it probably won't be of much help to anyone else other than me, but...it is what it is!

Seriously...I'm so in denial! Can you believe Christmas is only 35 days away! I feel like everything is so rushed this year. Maybe because it still doesn't feel like winter...today is suppose to be in the 70's. Crazy!

I hate the holidays being such a rush. Thanksgiving is just 5 days away. In the previous post I said we'll be with David's family on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday will have another dinner here. This will be the first time 'Bama Girl's fiance' will be meeting the family. Poor boy!

Not only is next week Thanksgiving, but also 'Bama Girl's birthday and our anniversary. Just sayin'.

I went grocery shopping yesterday and bought food for our dinner. Today, I'm probably going to do all my chopping...onions, celery, bell peppers, pickles, etc. One new thing I'm adding to the menu this year is roasted brussels sprouts:

2 packages 'fresh' brussels sprouts (about 48)

3 T olive oil 1 T lemon juice 2 T chopped garlic salt and pepper

Cut brown end and any yellow leaves off sprouts. Cut in half. Drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice; add garlic, salt and pepper. Roast on pan at 400* for 30-40 min. stirring or shaking pan to turn sprouts over.

They are so good...I also use the same recipe for roasted broccoli or cauliflower. (I've always been anti-vegetables...unless they're fried, buttered or swimming in cheese or sauce...roasted veggies changed this!)

*Brussels or brussel sprouts? I looked it up...it's brussels sprouts with an 's'.

'Bama Girl came home Wednesday night and we spent two days making quilts for her to give to her future in-laws...I forgot to take pictures. She took the one for Dain's Dad home to finish the binding, I have one on the quilting machine and one to finish putting borders on. And one of mine to quilt and one to finish the binding on. (Oh! I do have a picture of the one on the frame!)

This was another thing I did while I was out yesterday: bought more batting and even though I had a 40% off coupon it was still $150...(ridiculous!) and it wasn't even the kind I wanted...all they had was natural and I wanted white. The manager called every store in a 45 mile radius and none of the three had any white! What's up?

I may take the week off, but don't be surprised if I show up!

Riding the crazy train...

Can't find my meds...no, really...my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc! I hope I didn't leave them in Ohio! (Update: Found 'em! Where? Where I keep the medicine...where else?)

Can't seem to get it together and plan a menu or even a grocery list for Thanksgiving dinner. We usually eat at David's mom's for Thanksgiving dinner. But, because I have a couple of spoiled brats (LOL...my bad!) I also cook a complete dinner here, too!

Got two quilts to 'quilt', one to finish sewing the top, one on the drawing board and one that I need to finish the binding on. And this is what my kitchen and dining room look like:

I'm really trying to get into the Christmas spirit...but I need to get over over one holiday at a time!

Yay! I'm home!

Today I spent my first full day at home. I'm such a homebody and really hate being away. So I'm a very happy person today!

I really didn't do a lot today, but I did make a "mug rug". So easy, so fast!

But...not necessarily the cutest thing on the block! I've got to make a few more and then I'll post some more pictures. Maybe I'll get better and make some prettier ones! Anyway...that's what I'm going to be doing tonight while I watch TV...Mike and Molly! (Love this show!) The Event (still not sure about this one!). And since it's rainy and cold...I'll use my new mug rug for some cocoa and ...vanilla wafers! (That's all I have in the pantry! LOL!)

Home Again, Home Again...soon!

We'll be leaving (hopefully) around 12 or 1 pm today to go back home! I'm so ready! If you don't know already...I'm a homebody! And as much as I love David and love being with him, I really love Alabama and being in my own home! So does this little fellow:

Because?

1. He hates being taken out on a leash

2. He hates being cooped up in an apartment when we leave.

3. He hates travel.

4. Most important? He misses Cheddar!

(Chance told me all this...I didn't make it up...promise!)

I'm excited about going home because I've got so many project to do! I didn't tell that I went fabric shopping, did I? One of the places I went was to JoAnn's. And boy oh boy! What a haul I made! 26 yards of fabric for $40!! All their red tag fabric was 1/2 off...that's right...$2, $3, and $5 fabric all 1/2 off, folks!

I also went to the Pottery Barn outlet here and bought a white quilt. I can hear the collective gasp..."A QUILT? Why would you buy a quilt?"

1. 'Cause it's white and I don't want to quilt a white one.

2. It's king sized and it's harder to get a king size on my frame.

3. It already has shams and I don't have to sew them.

4. I bought a dust ruffle to match and don't have to sew one.

5. I wanted to be able to use it when I got home and later...'K?

6. And...I've got ideas for revamping my bedroom!

Back to the projects...for Christmas, I already have one quilt to bind, two to quilt and possibly two left to make, so although I already have my plate full, I really, really want to make some of these:

Mug rugs...(sorry I don't know where I got the picture from...if you see this and it's your's, please let me know!) There is a tutorial...so cute!...on Jodi's blog! It's different from this one...it's a scrappy Christmas Tree! (Jodi, if you ever read this, I'm hoping you don't mind!) Anyway...I'm jumping on the band wagon and making some mug rugs!

If you can't tell, I've had a lot of time on my hands while David has been at work and I've been surfing the 'net a lot! But I won't tell you all my plans...I'll save some for later!

We went to West Virginia to the Homer Laughlin factory. This is the broken pottery outside the door.

I guess I went a little crazy, but I really got a good deal...about $300 worth of Fiesta for around $80...it's seconds, but I don't mind! I don't know who will inherit all that I've got, but they better love Fiesta! I'll show some pictures of what I bought when I get home and unpack!

I found a few more barn quilts, but went past so fast I didn't get a picture (maybe I can talk David into going back!)

But I did get a picture of a barn with hex signs on it...just as unusual! (for me!)

Good answer! But...NO...Not me!

Ohio would be the correct answer and that's where I'm at! And...why I haven't been blogging for a while! Well...that's just an excuse and we all know it! ('Cause I've only been here a week!

I'm in Circleville, OH visiting hubby! He flew home and then we drove up here for two weeks. We'll drive back and then he'll fly back next week...easy peasy! Except for one little thing:

Chance! He's not a good traveler. He whined for the 8 long hours we were in the car coming up here...not fun! We tried everything to get him to go to sleep...it just wasn't going to happen. I'm really dreading the trip back.

I'm going to show just a few pictures from my trip and save the rest for another post.

Everything's "Falling" into place

Another fall post.

I'm going to see 'Bama Girl this week, I decided to take her a couple of things, so I had to get busy. Saturday night, I started on this and finished up the binding Sunday morning:

She can use the quilt as a wall hanging or table topper.

I also found something to hang with my wall hangings (I'd been looking for something other than a curtain rod or just having them hand plain against the wall.)

I thought it was cute. But that may just be me!

We're going to lunch and a little shopping. I'm sure I'll be going to JoAnn's because they have a 50% off coupon for a single cut of fabric. (I'd like a whole bolt, please!)

Maybe if we find a few bargains, I'll have a few thing to show off. Actually, that reminds me that I've wanted to talk to you about something for a while. You see, that's how I've been feeling lately...like I'm being a show off, when in reality I'm just documenting the things I make and what I do daily...okay? Okay...just wanted to get that elephant out of the room and clear the air! I also hope you'll find an idea or two that you can take for your own!

Since I'm in a mood (a sewing mood!) I'm going to get some more fabric out and see what I come up with!

It is and therefore, I should show some quilts, but I really, really hate to. The only one I've finished lately is suppose to be a Christmas present...but here goes (maybe she won't see it). BTW...it's lime green, black and white...but it photographed yellow instead of lime.

My next quilt is going to be black and white and gray. I haven't decided on a pattern yet, but probably a square in a square. Any suggestions?

I just pulled some from my stash. As much as I love black and white, I've never done a quilt with only these colors. And looking at them now...I really wish I could add another color to the mix...maybe red or orange, green or blue. But I can't. This was a request. The person requested black and white with no "pattern". Hmmm...since I didn't know what this meant, I'm just winging it. (It's for my son...duh!) He just wants something that he can throw on the couch for his friends to use when they stay over. Nothing sentimental here! I'd go to the local "Big Box" store and pick up one for 30 bucks, but it's the first time he's asked me to make one for him and I'm his mom...what could I say? Yeah, I'll make you one, but it has to be the colors I want? It's going to be a challenge...so...bring it on!

Welcome! October is here! Ummm, yeah...I know it's been here about a week, but I'm just now getting into it!

I don't know if I've ever shown my front door before. Oh well, I know I haven't when it's decorated for fall! And I know I've shown my mums, but I love the color!

One of the things not so great? Hay fever. Yuck! I was trying to finish mowing the last pasture that needed it and the grass and pollen are killers this year! But it looks good now that I've mowed!

This part had never been mowed before because it was always too wet. But not now! We really need some rain. Even the pond has dried up. And there's Red Flag Warnings...fire weather warnings...no burning for the whole state. And you can see why by the above picture...everything is brown and dry!

Well, as you can see, I'm really scrapping the bottom of the barrel to come up with something to write about today! So...

I've really been into fall this week! Doncha' love the weather?...that is if you're living near me! It's 71* here now and tonight it's suppose to be 45*! A big change from last week!

I've been doing a little decorating. Went to Hobby Lobby...big sale!

Bought just a few things...

It's been a long time since I've done any crafting...it's usually all quilting!

This is what I did at my back door (well...the only door anyone uses!).

The ceramic flower picks were 1/2 off...$1 ea. and I had a 40% off coupon that I printed and got all the pots for $1.50. Not bad, huh?

And the scarecrow? They had McCall's patterns for 99 cents.

It was suppose to be a witch, you know the kind...green face, black hat...cooked nose? But I really wanted a scarecrow more (I do think I need a little raffia for hair though)!

It was fun...doing a few crafts for a change!

This morning, I went to Huntsville with William to get him new scrubs...

This Quilt and I...

have had a love/hate relationship. At first, I hated it. I hated the colors, the pattern...everything about it! Here's a picture of the top before a second border was sewn on and before it was quilted.

Now, I love it!

I love the colors, the fussy cutting, the flannel backing, the quilting...yes, I love it! And I'm not usually happy with my quilts...I always find flaws or find something I would do differently. But, not this one. (Ignore the black spot...that's on my camera. I don't know what it is, I may have to have a new camera? Hint, hint?)

I made this for David's mother. She's ill. She's going through chemotherapy, which makes her immune system bonkers. That's why I added the flannel to the back...to keep her warm. I've never used flannel on my quilting machine, but I love working with it...I may never use anything else again!

I thought I'd give a much better view of my so-called life! BTW, I'm so sorry you had to see me like that...I lose my mind sometimes and just need to let off some steam. Anyway...I'd rather have time to spend on my blog than get on FB. I mean, on there, I can only write a line or two and when I blog I can go on and on and on! (maniacal laughter!) Bwahahaha!

We bought a zero turn mower a while back and Chance has decided that everytime it starts up he has to jump on...the faster I go the more he likes it! So...if I don't want a partner when I'm mowing, I have to lock him in the house!

We got a pool cover and have closed the pool for the winter. But, I've got a few problems with it and may have to take it up and send it back...yeah, what else is new?

Hopefully, Fall is on its way! The temperature here today is suppose to be in the upper 90's! But starting Saturday the temps are falling! (Pun!) I can't wait! To be able to go outside without getting drenched in sweat will be wonderful! It's my favorite time of year! Cool and colorful! I just wish it would last longer!

(This is my opinion and my blog, so if you're a fan of FB...I hope I don't hurt your feelings, but it is what it is.)

Dear Facebook,

We're through. After 5 years, we're finally breaking up. Why? Because you've changed. When I first joined you, I was in college (yes, I know I'm old, but I was going back to get my degree.) Anyway, you started out as a social forum for college students. I could connect with my professors and classmates. Then you were made available to high school students. Then you were available to everyone!

And I fell into the hype (fad) of: "I'm staying on Facebook to be able to keep up with all my friends and family."

So why am I leaving you now? Well...

I'm tired of being Facebook stalked. I'm tired of the drama. You have become nothing more than a catalyst for busybodies. You're the dealer for their "new crack".

I'm also constantly being asked to "friend" everyone and their brother (or...their mother). If I don't accept them, I get a phone call asking "Why?". Seriously?

I also think most "kids" are also tired of it. I mean ...when your grandmother asks to be your friend on Facebook, is this a good thing? I'm happy she's computer literate, but there's a limit. And...even if you are the "cool mom" do you really think your children aren't rolling their eyes and wishing you would just give them a little space? And do I really want to know everything my kids, their friends, or my nieces and nephews do? Is this just not opening myself up for drama? (I can admit that I've been guilty of this.)

And...sure, it's nice not to have to buy a card and stamp to say "Happy Birthday". I've even bought into this. But how much trouble is it to do that? Aren't my friends and family worth it? Does everyone really appreciate all the blanket well wishes on Facebook?

Do I want or need to know that my mother- in- law has gone to WalMart to buy her denture cream? Do I need to know what you're having for dinner? Do I need to read conversations between you and your long lost high school boyfriend? Do I really need to see a picture your new tattoo and be one of the privileged "few" that know where it is?

I do appreciate that you will pray for me and want me to pray for you also, and I will, but...really? I'm not sure God has time for Facebook, either.

I would rather you let me know that you and your husband are getting a divorce through a phone call...not by having to sort through comments to find this out. (Or since you only post this on Facebook, if I don't get on and read it...I don't find out and ultimately make a faux pas when I do see you.)

And if your spouse, child, or parent has passed away...I'm going to give you a call or a visit to show my respect and not just post a line or two on Facebook. Really.

And do I really need to see 694 pictures of you and your children at Disney?

So...although it was fun for a while, I just don't have time for you and all your drama. I've outgrown you and moved on.

PS: I know I can set the Privacy setting on Facebook to filter all the unwanted comments and searches for me and I know I can delete "friends". That's not the point. The point is...I'm leaving Facebook and just wanted to vent.

What I did on my summer vacation...

Uh-may-zing! I'm finally writing a post (due to a lot of chastising!)

I haven't taken the time to write because...I own a farm! Duh. Oh, and by the way, I didn't have a summer vacation. Too bad, so sad!

I'll let my pictures tell the sad tale of hardworking, underpaid (non paid!) little ol' me.

If you remember from a previous post (way back in July!) I started painting the deck. Well, after a couple of months of temperatures from hell, I finally got it done:

My eyeballs were sweating! I couldn't keep sunscreen on, it ended up in a puddle on the deck. But the humidity was so bad that if I got up early before the high temps, the deck was soaked with dew, so... Anyway, it's done!

I've spent a lot of time on the tractor. See this field I just bush hogged today?

Well, there's three more that I did just like it! (We have 6...'Bama Dad did one of the other two and I still have one left to do). This is the one 'Bama Dad did and shows a good picture of the pond:

What have I done for fun? Not a lot, but...I did go thrifting and to a flea market where I got these two chairs which I bargained down from $30 to $20 for both!

I have one other that I bought at a thrift store, but it needs some glue. I'm trying to get about 6 or 8 more to sit around the porch for extra seating and just 'cause I like them!

On a recent thrift store foray, I found this:

It's a wrought iron swing ($18) and matches other pieces that I have which need to be painted white:

I have other pictures and other things I did this summer, but I'll save them and try to write a post sooner!
